Jan 20th – Kumihimo
This month Kelly is going to introduce you to the art of Kumihimo, Japanese for “gathered threads”. Kumihimo is a popular form of braid-making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands.
This simple yet stylish technique is perfect for creating unique necklaces or bracelets to showcase your glass art.
If you have a pair of scissors, please bring them. There are no fees for this month’s project. Also if you have a Kumihimo disk you may wish to use it. The rest of us will be cutting one from a template. The foam disks are preferable, so if you’ve always wanted to try this, you may wish to pick up a disk of your own. You can get a very inexpensive $2 one at Walmart, it is called a weave wheel and is usually in the craft section, if your store carries it. You can also find Kumihimo Discs online at Amazon, or some of the big craft stores, But they usually cost between $5-10.
